Happy Easter from Sonja, Monika & Birgitta

SONJA & MONIKA

I would like to wish a Happy Easter to all members of Sweden’s Auricula Club.

Sonja, Monika & Birgitta are all blooming on this Good Friday, they have not only brightened the day with their vibrant colours, but have added a delicious perfume to the halfway house where they are currently kept.
BIRGITTA
These three have bloomed too early for the garden show ‘Din Trädgård’ in April, but they have cheered up this freezing Easter Weekend.

Don’t forget to open the greenhouse & cold frames

Minus 12 C night-time, plus 5 C day-time

Even if the temperatures at night are well below zero, do open your unheated greenhouse or cold frames during the day. At this time of  year the sun soon heats up the greenhouse or cold frames, Auriculas do not like these big swings in temperatures.

At this time of the year my auriculas are normally putting on some new growth, but at the moment they are still dormant. They will not get into good growth until we have plus degrees both night and day; this looks a long way off just now.

The greenhouse can soon be over 20 C in the sunshine

Auricula seedlings make a show after 4 weeks

I sowed some of my open pollinated auricula seeds on the 21st February and now 4 weeks later they have started to germinate. It normally takes 4 to 6 weeks for the first seedlings to appear and it is always pleasing to see the first small green leaves appear. My sowing of the seeds taken from my special crosses sown at the same time have only one or two seeds germinating at the moment, they always seem to take longer.
I do hope all those that bought seeds through the club are having similar success.

Marita shares her border Auriculas with us.

Marita a new member from Finland has kindly sent in some pictures of her Auriculas. Marita grows almost all of her auriculas in open borders, many of which she has raised herself from seed. It’s really inspiring to see Auriculas growing on mass and so well in open borders.
Thank you for sharing your auricula pictures with us Marita.
